Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Seoul to Visit Like a Local

Cherry blossom season is one of the city’s most magical times of year, but it also comes with crowds, especially in the most popular spots.

If you’d rather experience the blossoms at a gentler, more relaxed pace (without the tourist chaos), these are my five favorite spots, which I believe are some of the best cherry blossom spots in Seoul. All are local favorites and some are relatively unknown to tourists, giving you the chance to discover a hidden, more authentic side to Seoul’s cherry blossom season!

When is Cherry Blossom Season in Seoul?

Cherry blossom season in Seoul usually hits between late March and early April, although it can shift a little each year depending on the weather.

The blooms are short-lived, often lasting only a week or two, which means timing is everything. If you’re visiting during this period, it’s worth checking blossom forecasts and staying flexible so you can catch them at their best.

Naver Map and Kakao Map both have fantastic seasonal search options for cherry blossom spots to help you plan your travels (Kakao Map even highlights the areas where the cherry blossoms are fully bloomed, which is incredibly helpful!)

My Top Picks for Cherry Blossom Viewing in Seoul

Gyeongui Line Forest Park

Best for a relaxed, local vibe

Stretching through some of Seoul’s liveliest neighbourhoods, Gyeongui Line Forest Park is one of the best places to experience cherry blossoms in a way that feels part of everyday life rather than a tourist attraction. Built along an old railway line, the park weaves through Yeonnam, Hongdae, Sinchon and Gongdeok, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll between these popular spots.

During cherry blossom season the paths are lined with trees making a canopy of blossoms, but the atmosphere stays relatively calm compared to Seoul’s bigger hotspots. You’ll see locals walking their dogs, students catching up with friends, and people enjoying a slow afternoon stroll along the old railway line, giving you a true taste of local life.

The park is best enjoyed without a plan. Grab a coffee, wander along the path, and stop wherever feels nice; there are creative market stalls to browse, local art pieces to admire and of course an array of quiet restaurants and cafes to enjoy. My favorite cafe in this area is Hey Jude – take a seat on the rooftop with a cute drink of choice to enjoy blossom views and people-watching from above.

Best time to visit: Late afternoon into sunset for a quieter atmosphere

Best for: Solo walks, casual dates, or a slow, no-pressure wander through the city

Seoul Forest

Best for a peaceful escape in the heart of the city.

If you’re looking for somewhere that feels a little more open and calm during cherry blossom season, Seoul Forest is a great option. Tucked away from the busiest tourist areas, it offers a mix of wide walking paths, green spaces, and pockets of cherry blossom trees that feel far less hectic than the city’s more famous spots.

During peak bloom, you’ll still see people out enjoying the blossoms, but the space makes a big difference; it’s easy to find a quieter path, take your time, and actually enjoy the scenery without constantly weaving through crowds. It feels like a place to unwind rather than somewhere you rush through for photos.

What makes Seoul Forest stand out is how much there is to do beyond just looking at the blossoms. You can rent a bike and explore more of the park, stop for a picnic under the trees or visit the deer enclosure and butterfly garden. There are also outdoor fitness areas if you want something more active, and nearby café streets where you can grab a drink and take a break after walking. Flower-themed cafe Clementine is one of my absolute favorites in this area and perfect for a blossom-themed day!

Best time to visit: Weekday mornings for the quietest experience, or early evening for a softer atmosphere

Best for: Solo travellers, slow walks, picnics, and anyone wanting a more peaceful cherry blossom experience in central Seoul.

Boramae Park

Best hidden gem for a local experience.

If you’re looking for a spot that feels off the typical tourist path, Boramae Park is a quiet treasure. It’s especially convenient if you’re staying south of the river and don’t want to battle crowds to see blossoms in the city center.

The park is home to the unique King Cherry Blossom trees, which are larger and more striking than the typical blossom trees. During peak bloom, these trees make the area feel a bit more dramatic than the city’s more popular blossom spots. It’s also still fairly unknown to tourists.

Boramae Park has a relaxed, local vibe; you’ll see families strolling, joggers weaving through the paths, and residents enjoying a slow afternoon outdoors. It’s also a great spot to combine a cherry blossom walk with some light activity – there are open fields for frisbee, benches to picnic on, or paths to explore at your own pace.

Best time to visit: Mid-morning or late afternoon for a calm experience

Best for: Locals, residents south of the river, anyone looking for impressive cherry blossoms without the crowds

Seokchon Lake

Best for classic cherry blossom views beside the water.

It can get crowded at weekends and in the afternoons!

Seokchon Lake is one of Seoul’s most famous cherry blossom spots, and for good reason. The long, reflective stretch of water lined with soft pink blooms is a must-see if you’re chasing that classic cherry blossom photo.

That said, the popularity comes with a caveat: afternoons and weekends can get extremely crowded, often making it hard to truly enjoy the blossoms. The trick here is all in the timing. Visit early in the morning or later at night, and you’ll get to enjoy the full effect of the trees reflecting on the lake without constantly dodging crowds.

Even with the crowds though, the lake’s beauty is worth it. The paths along the water are a great spot for photography or simply soaking in the seasonal scenery. Pair your visit with a stroll around Lotte World Tower nearby if you want to make a day of it, or just settle in for a peaceful moment by the water.

Best time to visit: Early morning or evening to avoid the busiest crowds

Best for: Classic cherry blossom views, photography, and anyone willing to plan their timing for the best experience

Seoul Grand Park

Best for a scenic cherry blossom escape.

Take a gondola ride (the cherry blossom trees were already turning green when I visited but the mountain views are amazing too!)

For a cherry blossom spot that’s a little off the beaten path, Seoul Grand Park is a fantastic choice. Located on the outskirts of the city (although still accessible on the subway line), it’s less well-known to tourists, which means you can enjoy the blooms without the usual crowds.

The park is expansive, with plenty of walking paths lined with cherry trees, but the real standout is the classic gondola ride. From above you get a sweeping view of the blossoms blending with the surrounding mountains, a perspective you won’t find anywhere else in Seoul.

Even if you skip the gondola, the park itself is lovely for strolling or a picnic under the trees as well as home to a variety of family-friendly activities such as train rides, flower gardens and even a zoo. It’s especially convenient if you’re looking to combine a cherry blossom outing with a day trip outside the busiest parts of the city.

Best time to visit: Weekday mornings or early afternoon to enjoy space and light

Best for: Scenic views, couples, families, or anyone looking to get away from central Seoul crowds
